This quote certainly speaks to my experiences. If someone would have told me back in May that this summer you will hike some of the toughest, longest, steepest most gruelling mountains, as a non-hiker I would have laughed and said yah right, there’s no way; but as I sit here today I have a summer of memories on mountaintops and trailheads I wouldn’t trade for anything. Not to mention I had the privilege to experience these amazing, breathtaking moments with some of the nicest, funniest, kindest, people that first strangers have now become friends.
It never got easier for me! It was always tough every time but that’s also what made reaching the top so sweet. I have no words to actually articulate and do justice the monumental moments on top of mountain tops. I take away with me not only memories but life lessons that transcend my experiences, ones such as: You can keep going long after you think you can’t, the top is just one step in front of the other,I can’t quit now, surround yourself with people who make you better, we have so much in this life to be grateful for sometimes you just have to stop, breathe, and look around. Then there’s the fact that all of this is practically in our back yards, I was thankful for the blood, sweat, tears, the early mornings, the sacrifices physically, mentally and even emotionally (fear and frustration), but these experiences have changed me and I wouldn’t have it any other way. For the first time in my life I feel proud of myself, for doing things I thought were impossible. I feel like this is only the beginning.
I am thankful beyond words to Lethbridge Sports and Social Club, how do you thank something that’s given you so much? None of this would have been possible had I not taken the chance to sign up! So here’s to taking chances and finding some companions!
